Toronto: The agreement announced today between the municipalities of Ontario and the provincial government is a significant step in the right direction, according to Ontario’s Business Advocate, and particularly noteworthy considering the current pressures on provincial revenues. 

 

“The ten year plan announced today to upload 1.5 billion in social assistance benefits and court security costs from the municipalities will go a long way to easing the burden on the property tax base, and addressing the long held concerns of our members,” explains Len Crispino, President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “Today’s progress is even more significant because it represents a major step forward despite the challenges presented by today’s economic climate.”

 

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce will continue to work with the government to address any outstanding property tax issues so as to continue to build a stronger province and municipal-provincial framework.
